Hometown: Princeton, NJ

Turkey. My pale skin astounds my Latino teammates. Sunscreen is important.

Strengths as a Student-Athlete:

Being able to balance hard classes with travel and riding can be difficult, but it is necessary skill throughout high school and college.

Favorite Food:

Pizza, it’s almost impossible to mess up.

Favorite Class at MSA:

History with Mr. Riddick, a fun and engaging class with a lot of discussion.

Favorite Ride in Charlottesville:

Tuesday Night Worlds. It is a fast loop with a great group of people, always fun and hard.

Favorite Trail on MSA Campus:

Burke’s Run, the berms are super fast and flowy, I can’t wait until it is truly complete.

Favorite Race:

Joe Martin Stage Race, the time trial is short and steep, the road race has the perfect mix of climbing and flat, and the crit is crazy hard. It was also my first exposure to stage racing; it taught me a lot more than any one-day race could have.

Best Memory as a Member of the MSA Endurance Team:

Pretty much any long drive, it’s sure to be eventful. Driving up to the Tour of the Battenkill was pretty cool, we got to stop at Coach Guptill’s house and play football, and I was introduced to a whole new genre of music, courtesy of Pedro Martins.

Gus is a silent killer. He’s focused, determined, and driven. As you’re climbing with him, you start to realize that your legs are hurting, and then your lungs are burning, and then all of a sudden you’ve been dropped. Gus will be leaving his mark on the road and mountain bike scene in 2017, for sure.
